Now that your mane woes have been addressed, thanks to our article on the best beauty and hair salons for expats, you may ask: “Team Expat, could you recommend us the best places to buy fashionable outfits in my size? Everything here seems to be ridiculously small!”

Don’t be surprised that most of the latest fashion pieces don’t go beyond a UK 14, as they are designed to cater to petite Asian bodies. Unfair, to be sure, but these capitalists are out to make money. Meanwhile, those of us born in Western countries are forced to purchase our everyday wear online or have them custom-made. But all is not lost. Few retailers and design labels do carry an extensive range of sizes to include all body types – you just need to know where to find them! Here are some of the best expat fashion finds in Singapore to help you stay stylish, for all budgets

IN GOOD COMPANY

Not many local designers end up making it big, but thankfully for us, Sven Tan, Kane Tan, Julene Aw, and Jaclyn Teo did. The four are the brains behind IN GOOD COMPANY (IGC), a Singaporean label founded in 2012. The label forgoes the latest trends to specialise in capsule collections with minimalist key pieces to enhance customers’ wardrobes, keeping Singapore’s humid weather in mind. IGC opened its first standalone flagship store in Ion Orchard last year, complete with an in-house café and a selection of lifestyle products by independent and home-grown labels. Step inside, and we guarantee you won’t be able to resist walking out without treating yourself to one of their creations!

Aijek

A Singaporean label created by self-taught designer Danelle Woo in 2010 to produce beautiful and effortless pieces with sustainable high quality fabrics such as silk. If you’re looking for modern, sophisticated and feminine silhouettes that will last a long time, then look no further than Aijek. Our favourite has got to be the “Moonshine” collection for Fall/Winter 2015 – nothing spells a romantic evening out more than lace and silk!

Marks Spencer

Well known and loved by millions of people across the world, Marks and Spencer offers high quality fashion, award-winning food and stylish homeware. We love the British fashion label for their wide variety of clothes sizes available, not to mention that they are effortless, practical, and stylish for everyday situations. Some have remarked that Marks & Spencer range of clothes can be quite frumpy, but there have been numerous quality finds as well. As they say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison, or in the case, fashion (Lady Gaga, we’re looking at you in the meatsuit)

Seafolly

If you’re looking for swimwear, Australian label Seafolly is the one to go to. With an extensive array of one-pieces, bikinis and beach cover-ups in bold statement prints and eclectic colours, not to mention gorgeous supermodel Gigi Hadid as their cover girl, you’ll find your sea legs in no time! Be warned, as much as stepping out in a Seafolly bikini can cause men’s jaws to drop, your jaw may drop first as prices can be a little steep.

Prefer shopping in the comfort of your own home? Then e-commerce sites are the way to go. We’ve come a long way from the days of sketchy blogshops where you have to wait for them to pre-order their stock and pay via bank transfer, with many international brands such as ASOS.com, Urban Outfitters, and Nordstrom making themselves at virtually at home. Here are two local noteworthy e-commerce sites that you may want to check out:

Zalora Singapore

Hailed as Asia’s leading online fashion destination, ZALORA carries an extensive collection of mainstream brands and labels – both international and local – and caters to women, men, and kids. What we love about ZALORA is their fast shipping, regular discounts, and hassle-free returns – so now you can get that cute dress you saw at a retail store for an attractive price, without having to wait in line! Enjoy $15 off your order when you subscribe to their newsletter today.

COLLATE The Label

COLLATE describes themselves as a luxury label made affordable for the fashion forward. Like its namesake, the label aims to inspire women to be the curator of her wardrobe – to select and collect clothes that speak of her individuality – by delivering said quality pieces. Their portfolio backs their bold claim: COLLATE made its debut at Singapore Fashion Week in 2015 to positive reception and social media darling Velda Tan is at its helm. They carry a lot of colorblock prints in soft hues and luxe basics, so you can be sure that your wardrobe will never be boring!
