As you may be well aware, football season has started and will continue until the 15th July. Hosted by the Russians and with the first matches already under way, it looks set to be one of the most exciting football seasons yet. So where are the best places to watch the matches?
501 Bukit Timah Road, Cluny Court #01-05C
Much like traditional pubs before it, Bar Bar Black Sheep is extremely lively and cheering is encouraged. The only downside is that they will be asking a minimum spend of S$50 per person to guarantee that you have a spot in the bar and they will only be screening until 11pm on weeknights and 1am on weekends. Best of all, they have plenty of dining options from Thai to North Indian, all served on long open-air tables.
52 Circular Road
It wouldn’t be a football match if you weren’t surrounded by Aussies, right? If that wasn’t enough to tempt you, then kangaroo burgers and BBQ platters should be. They also have huge HD TV’s with live streaming during the World Cup. Their happy hour promotions are also value for money, with special discounts on spirits, glasses of wine, and pints of beer. Happy hour is from 5pm-8pm on weeknights and 2pm-8pm on Sundays.
Found at Asia Square, DUO Galleria and Millenia, Boulevard will be showing matches live including commentary throughout the World Cup. Their screens are second to none, with surround sound and they have a great bar menu. If you want to reserve a table, it is highly recommended to book ahead otherwise you might be left with standing room only.
30 Merchant Road, Riverside Point #01-05/06
Open until the early hours and one of the city’s most popular late night dining spots, Brewerkz is one of the places that will be showing some of the later games that begin at 2am. Located by the river, the bar has a great view as well as a particularly tasty menu. Expect chicken wings, burgers, pizzas as well as the usual pub fare. They also have their own microbrewery, which has joined up with five other microbreweries, to offer beers that have been made specially for the World Cup. What can be better than that?
39 Boat Quay
This bar has pledged to show every World Cup match on the listings. Alongside this, they are also running a competition, with the prize being a free weekend for two in Bangkok. They also have holiday vouchers for runners up, so make sure to check out their Facebook page to sign up. A hybrid between pub and club, BQ has a great atmosphere that will really contribute to their customers level of enjoyment during tense matches.
1 Bayfront Avenue, Marina Bay Sands Tower 3
For those of us who want to be a little more classy this football season, Singapore’s classiest rooftop bar is also making preparations for the World Cup. They will be screening live matches in the Club Lounge, as well as offering food until 3am on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Of course, make sure that you check out the dress code and cover charges first as they will still apply.
30 Victoria Street
This bar has nine different venues showing live matches, so you can be assured that you have seen every goal possible. They also have some excellent deals on food and booze, with discounts aplenty during the football season. They also have a contest where you can win dining vouchers, but only if you pick the winning team.
